Galileo Arrival

The Galileo probe plunges into Jupiters turbulent clouds

Galileo Arrival (1983) - A huge lightning discharge greets NASA's Galileo atmosphere probe as it plunges into Jupiter's swirling water clouds just after local sunset.

The original oil painting measures 48"x60". It accompanied the Sky and Telescope pre-launch Project Galileo article as the cover art, and also appeared in National Geographic and Popular Science. It was selected from countless memorable National Geographic images for inclusion in The National Geographic Society: 100 Years of Adventure and Discovery--a major book celebrating the Society's centennial.
